One of my main goals for the year 2020 has been to level up my skills on guitar. On the previous edition of my Now Page, I mentioned I was taking lessons with Italian virtuoso guitarist Marco Sfogli. I've found myself going back time and again to our lessons together to mine the many treasures he offered.
But I soon found another amazing guitarist from Sweden named Jon Bjork. Once I saw him on Instagram, I was blown away. I soon found his amazing library of guitar lesson courses and found one I thought would best suit me: Nailing the Minor Pentatonic.
This course has whipped me into better shape on guitar than I've been in a very long time. I never had so much fun practicing because I finally have what I consider to be the ultimate template for learning the fretboard so far!
Without going into too great detail, suffice it to say that as you work your way through this course, you begin realizing how everything ties together neatly. Some of the exercises you might not understand at first and may even think are wasting your time. But you have to remember one thing, especially with this course—Trust the Process.
If you'll just keep working on the material—and there's plenty of it, a whole 12 weeks worth!—you'll gradually begin understanding how it all ties together.
I'm more confident in my abilities to play the Minor Pentatonic Scale (which is the foundation for many other scales and modes) than I've ever been. I'm only on Week 4, and I've found myself taking each week's worth of material in two-week increments, but I'm patient enough, especially since I'm in no hurry and I'm seeing results!
I've typically been trying to practice in the mornings after my devotional time at around 10:30 a.m. or so. Then, I'm so stoked to play again that I often find myself watching TV with the guitar in my hands working on the materials from the course.
Click here if you want to give Jon's course a try—and I highly recommend you do. I've also left a video sample below from his course. If you'd like to see Jon's entire course library (including a free Mixed Lesson Pack) check it out here.
Jon has a YouTube channel, but I've found him to be most active on Instagram under his guitartechniques account.
